Fonty, ‘la Filature de Rougnat’ is one of the last wool spinning and dyeing factories still active in France. This traditional company constitutes a treasure of local heritage and holds the "Living Heritage Company" (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant) designation, a French state honor.
The mill is located in the Creuse region in central France. Operating since 1880, Fonty produces high-end natural yarns from animal fleeces and plant fibers. Fonty’s dyeing studio creates many colors for the yarns, with particular attention to respect for the environment. The company focuses on sustainable, eco-friendly practices, including natural materials, waste recovery, and an ecological water treatment plant.
Ecology in the broad sense is at the heart of the concerns of the Filature team, which is pursuing an eco-sensitive, eco-responsible and sustainable development approach: natural materials, recovery and production of renewable energies, short loops, reduction of inputs, elimination of pollutants, ecological water treatment, selective sorting, waste recovery, fair trade, associative commitment, and goodwill in relationships, are at the heart of the Filature Fonty project.
