NEWS: As many others have opined, we've had a rocky start to 2025.
We packed up and moved the store 2 blocks over, just barely began unpacking, and then got hit with a succession of catastrophes. Far more than one person should be required to deal with in my opinion.
January has certainly been a LONG year!
But what I have learned in this time of sadness, pain and strife is...you can't control everything. Try as I might to live as if by sheer strength of will and determination, (stubbornness), I can juggle all the things, perfectly, indefinitely, and with boundless energy; that is simply not true. I have been running on fumes for longer than I care to think about and am currently reaping the consequences both physically and mentally.
Changes are coming, but do not worry. Dye Hard is still home, and here when you need it. I am here, Abby is here, and the shop will re-open soon. Lunar New Year:
Abby and I had the good fortune to be invited to the home of a dear friend to celebrate the Lunar New Year together. We shared an array of delightful homemade dishes, talked & laughed with friends, caught up on life's happenings, and genuinely enjoyed each others company.
From what I've learned, the Lunar New Year in Korean is called Seollal, and is a cherished 3-day cultural holiday whose origins can be traced back to ancient agricultural practices when the lunar cycles were essential in determining the best times for planting and harvesting. Seollal became a time for communities to come together & reflect, reconnect with familial roots & give thanks for the past year’s harvest. It was a time of hope, renewal & wishes for a bountiful new year.
Today, loved ones travel from all over to celebrate the new lunar year with traditional foods, ancestral rites, gifts and games. Popular gifts like fruit, traditional sweets, honey, health products, and money in silk pouches symbolize good luck and prosperity. With so much love and joy surrounding it, Seollal is one of the most important Korean holidays, and a beautiful tradition passed down through generations.
