The simple art of crafting is soothing to the mind and spirit. Let us keep your hands busy, your heart full, and your mind at peace during these worrisome times.
We're here to help however we can.

Remember to shop small.
Small businesses near and far are suffering greatly right now.
Where would we be without our neighborhood stores, venues, restaurants and boutiques?
Look into your hearts, and give if you're able.
We all need a little hope right now.

Better Together, We're alway better together.

Be safe, and well in your homes.
Remember that you're not alone. You still have community, and sometime soon, we'll be seeing each other again.

And then we'll share all the HUGS!

The Serendipitous Wool trunk show ends Friday!

The Serendipitous Wool trunk show ends Friday!

We've been incredibly lucky to have had an amazing trunk show from a wonderful Dyer for just over a month now.

But I'm sad to say, it's time for the show to go back home to Texas.

If you haven't had a chance to come in and cuddle these pieces of art, you are missing out. You have until Friday January 31st to snag some for yourself. All bases and colors are posted online if you're unable to stop by. I'm more than happy to help you choose colors for the project you have in mind.

Check out this fantastic show here.

Dye Hard Yarns is Moving

Dye Hard Yarns is Moving

Dye Hard Yarns is packing up and moving to a new location!
.
If you're familiar with our yarn boutique, you know that we feature several brands of Hand Dyed yarns, locally made gift items, and knitting and crochet classes. But the future of Dye Hard is changing.
.
I've decided to expand the business model to feature a Dye Studio for local area dyers and students.
.
The new home of Dye Hard Yarns will be just 10 minutes away, located right in the heart of Oak Park's Arts District, at 210 Harrison St. The new studio will accommodate the needs of local hand dyers and students interested in learning the ins and outs of the craft.
.
I'm developing a community dyer space within the new DHY store. It will be open to Fiber Artists and will also enable us to offer hand-dyeing classes along with our regular knitting, crochet, spinning, and macrame classes. The store has a mix of major brands and yarns dyed by local, independent artists, as well as handmade gifts. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to offer work by even more local hand-dyers and crafters with the expansion.

I believe that this is a fantastic step forward for the Oak Park fiber artist community in general, allowing us to support and encourage the development of the existing local fiber arts community, and to help it grow. It’s wonderful to be able to help artists and independent crafters do what they love.

My vision: A Dye studio and Artists space, Indie dyed yarn store, center for fiber arts classes, and community hub promoting diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality. It will be a place to create, to build community, and to sell our yarn and art. It will be a place to grow together, and learn, and teach others. Working together to lift each other into prosperity.

I want to set down roots in the arts district. To draw consumers to the neighbourhood who might not have otherwise found the area on their own. I'm hoping to partner with other Arts district businesses so that we can collaborate on classes and community events, and share opportunities for inclusion in the annual Chicago yarn crawl.

I'm so excited, and nervous, and full of butterflies! The possibilities are endless, and I'm thrilled to be able to create this new community.
.
Dye Hard Yarns is crowdfunding to help finance the cost of the new studio space and equipment. Our GoFundMe campaign includes more information as well as a descriptive video.

.
Your support, if given, will fund something that's never been done before, and help bring this dream and vision for the future to fruition.
.
We will have guest dyers, teachers, and designers alongside our usual knitting and crochet classes, and events. I'm reaching out to the local fiber arts community in search of Dyers and Fiber artists.

Back to the Blog - 2018 Local Yarn Shop Day

Back to the Blog - 2018 Local Yarn Shop Day

Okay, real talk right now - we had a blast last Saturday for Local Yarn shop day!  If you follow us on social media, you may have seen we had one of our favorite live bands (Rabbitfolk) play. We had coffee, cookies and biscuits, free patterns, and kits.  We have a new kit called Love Your Store  with a beautiful shawl pattern by Cally Monster of Monsterknits, and an amazing specialty-dyed Baah Yarn (this pink is absolutely stunning!).  Our very own Chastity (Kitty Pride Fibers) outdid herself with her Fading Point Kits - I couldn't stop staring at the purples of A Kiss Goodnight!
.
.
We had a couple of notions made especially for us by Nicole of  Knit Twit
Confession - I had to nom on the cake stitch markers when I saw them!
.
.
Knit Twit is the one who's created the amazing yarn bowls we have in the shop - she not only throws these in a variety of shapes and sizes, but she also glazes them in stunning colors.
.
.
We ended our day with a pom-pom making party.  We recently got trim guides and robots in the shop to help us!  I guess you know you're a yarnie when a ridiculous puffball of yarn makes you this happy?  I'm pretty much looking forward to making a bunch of pom-pomed hats for next winter now.
.
.
We had a lot of long time friends stop by, and made some new ones on Saturday too.  Thank you guys so much for coming by and celebrating with us!
Always,
Tracy

Big Goings On!

Big Goings On!

So we recently had a "this is really happening!" moment:

We're so proud and excited to have our logo officially on the awnings!

One of the other exciting things happening at the shop is this:

We are really excited to have received a shipment of Brew City Yarns, including Champaign Fingering and, get this, Luxury Yak DK!  Yep, the DK weight yarn is composed of 15% yak.  Between the fabulous colors that Brew City dyes, plus the amazingly soft texture of these yarns, I'm completely in love.  Click here to see all the colors we have in stock.

We're working really hard to get things going on the right foot, and seeing these steps happen is really exciting!
